Bass fishing on the Kissimmee Chain of lakes has been great! Most of our trips have been artificial bait trip and they have been producing good numbers of bass, 20 to 30 bass in a day, with some good size mixed in.Bass coming in at or just over 5 pounds have been common with the typical schoolie sized bass mixed in to help keep the action steady throughout the day.
The typical trip using artificial baits has been tossing a lot of senko type baits but the bigger bass as of late have been coming on a 7 inch ribbon tail in June bug color. The bass we have been catching have been mostly scattered but have been holding to a steady pattern of holding tight to scattered grass patches and areas of thinned out lily pads.
Red Eye shad and steel shad have been very good at producing some good numbers in open water areas, and ripped thru the scattered hydrilla. We have been tossing some top water plugs, and the Strike King Rage Tail but the bass have not responded too well to these baits as of yet. Water temperatures in the morning have been in the mid 70’s so maybe a few more degrees and they will light up on the top water. We fully expect the top water bite to light up like it did for us last year.
Live bait trips out here have been doing pretty much the same. We have been working mainly areas of 3 to 6 foot of water and slow trolling the shiner about 2 foot under a cork. With more productive spots I have deployed the dig in anchor, which slides in fast, easy and quiet and we have worked over the area really good before moving to the next spot. Key areas with the live bait have been the spots holding more hydrilla than any other type of cover.

The bass fishing on Lake Toho and the Kissimmee Chain has been great for us. Live wild shiners of course have always been a good bet to catching some good numbers as well as size, but I gotta tell you folks, we have been slamming some good numbers as well as size with artificial baits.

Our main baits as of late have been a good mix with senko type baits, speed craws, spinner baits, stike king red eye shads, and the one that woke up the sleeping giant the first day of October was the Azuma Shaker Z.

One main area we have been working has a good spam of lily pads with a bunch of scattered grasses and hydrilla and it has been holding a ton of bass. Working the Azuma Shaker Z around the grasses and just above the hydrilla produced some good numbers, as well as this toad of a bass. We had spotted a few other huge blowups in the water but they were just out of casting distance, but I tell ya, they were bass just as big as this trophy bass.

Soft plastics had produced several smaller bass as well as two bass that were four pounds plus, and they fought like champs. The air temperature as well as the water temperatures are finally cooling down and it has been triggering a pretty good feed from the bass. The day started out with the water surface temp right at 76 degrees and made for some good bass fishing. This coming week is looking like much cooler temps over night as well as during the day, and this will only benefit the bass fishing action in a positive way.

The middle of September has seen some awesome bass fishing action. We have been working mainly the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes to include world famous Lake Toho, as well as East Lake Toho. The weather seems to have settled some as far as the heat, but I believe that has been mainly due to some breezy days on the water to help cut the heat back.

I will say this, the heat has not seemed to mess with the bite too much at all. Many will say once you hit 10am the bite is shut down and it becomes a one here one there kind of thing, But don’t tell Jimmie and Frankie that. These two guys had what can be called nothing but an awesome time on the water.

We had set our sites on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes, which holds some of the best bass fishing around right now, and the waters did not let them down. Jimmie started the day out in our first spot, hitting a smaller, maybe 2 pound bass in the first 5 minutes, using wild shiners. This was the first ever bass that Jimmie had caught, which I was not aware of at the time. We made one move to an area that has been holding quality bass for some time now, and it was game on. Jimmie landed a very solid 4 pound bass, that fought awesome, no jumping with this gal, she just kept diving to bottom and charging the motor, but Jimmie worked her like a champ and got her in the boat, talk about big smiles for this bass he landed, we also managed to get her on film, so be sure to check out the Bass Fishing Videos on my web site.

Frankie, The host for Reel Fishing, had started out the day working artificial lures, but when he saw Jimmie was catching them left and right, decided to switch up to the wild shiners and started catching a few himself. These two guys were a total riot to have out on the water. Non stop catching and the jokes were just flying around.

The guys wanted me to fish along with them, so I joined them buy tossing around a wacky rigged Strike King Shim E Stick and caught a nice 4 pounder and showed Frankie how to use the Strike King Red Eye Shad, 3 casts into showing him, they grabbed the camera and started filming as what turned out to be a nice 5 pounder slammed the baits and started to dance around.

These bass were being caught all the way to 11am, in the heat of the day in shallow waters. The guys had a great time on the water and ended up catching 22 bass and learned a lot about bass fishing in Florida. Looking forward to getting them back out there very soon for some more great action.

East Lake Toho Bass Fishing

The last several days have seen some pretty good bass fishing on Lake Toho. Our main target had been East Lake Toho, which has not been letting us down. Action has been remaining pretty steady out here using artificial baits and it does seem that the artificial bait bite has been out producing the live bait.

Main lake has been yielding some good numbers as well as size, Lake Ajay has also been kicking out some good numbers as well on the chain. Senko type baits, flukes and redeye shads have been getting more than their fair share of bass out here. Most of the bass being caught have been coming from along the grass lines in about 4 to 6 foot of water with some flow. Junebug silver fleck and red shad have been the HOT colors to use out here for us.

Mike and Klye had a great time out on East Lake Toho catching bass pretty consistently all day long, with an hour break for lunch at East Lake Fish Camp. Most of their day had been spent working the various canals out here, and the bass played very well for them. Higher winds had forced us into the canals, put with the winds pushing the waters into them, the bass were stacking up in there and we had no problem catching them, boating roughly 20 bass on the day made for a very good trip.

Altho it has been hot out, my new “break for lunch” trips have been a great success with clients. That brief hour long break in the middle of the day has been all we needed to fish a full eight hour trip without getting over heated and still catch bass.

Be sure to also check out my split day trips, fish four hours in the morning, and then finishing off with four hours in the afternoon, yet another great way to beat the heat.

Kissimmee Chain and Butler Chain Bass Fishing

The month of July has seen some good bass fishing. Despite the heat, the bass are still willing to play well take the baits we offer them. Main baits of choice have varied depending on the waters we have been hitting, but two baits have been consistent on all the waters, those being a white spinner bait and the Strike King Redeye Shad.

East Lake Toho has still being holding steady with action in the early morning hours getting very limited top water action, but the redeye shad and white spinner bait have been picking off the bass steadily. When the day heats up, the big ticket has been senko type baits and flukes, worked in and around topped out grasses scattered around the main lake. The 6 to 10 foot range has been the areas that have seemed to hold more bass, and the better quality bass out here.

West Lake Toho has been fishing a lot like East Lake Toho. One big out here though is locating moving water after the rains. These areas will not only hold some good sized bass, but will also hold some good numbers as well. Northern end of the lake seems to be one of the better areas for producing bass as well as a few areas of offshore grasses.

Lake X, as I like to refer to it, is a part of the Kissimmee chain and has been a great place to fish. Bass in the early morning hours have been pretty active on senko type baits and flukes, with a few being caught on the redeye shad. Speed craws and trick worms have also been catching a good amount of bass out here as well. Topped out hydrilla has been the hot spot to be when the sun is up and the heat of the day is in full swing.

Butler Chain is still doing good as well. Our usual dock pattern has gone to the way side as the bass have moved offshore. Most of our fishing has been out in mid lake areas where grasses are just below the surface. Steel shad have been good in these areas as well as the flukes. Flukes were rigged with a small bullet weight and crawled thru the grasses to catch the bass. The hits were not aggressive but the bass were solid. Slow and steady pace will boat bass out here for you even in the heat of the day.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing and Orlando Bass Fishing

June has been an eventful month for bass fishing. The last half has seen some pretty darn good days of bass fishing.




Lake Toho has been very good in the early morning hours, especially with some top water action. Horny Toads and buzz baits along the grass lines have produced some explosive strikes and some good bass.Redeye Shad and steel shads are still producing some numbers out here as well as the old reliable senko type baits and trick worms.

East Lake Toho has been good. Early morning bite has been the best part of the day here. Scattered grasses through-out the lake has been producing not only some good numbers, but some good size as well. This has been an often over looked body of water, but believe me, this lake is a sleeper. You just need to know how to fish it. Start planning your fall and winter trips out here for split day trips, fishing for four hours, breaking for lunch at one of the two fine restaurants on the lake, then fishing the last four hours.



Butler Chain has been pretty good itself, once again it’s the early morning bite that is the most active. This is pretty much the typical pattern this time of year with the Florida heat. Bass have still been hanging around the outside grass edges and close to drop offs, as well as under the docks out here.

Spinner Baits, Redeye Shads, senko type baits and trick worms have been the main ticket to catching bass. There has been some open water schooling out here but from the lakes we have been on that has been limited and scattered.



Johns Lake has had some good days, and some days where you have to work for your bass. The days you work for them, you just basically move around more than usual, but you will still catch the bass out here. Early morning hours generally see the schooling action in the Deer Island Cut, sometimes it is heavy schooling action, and there are those days where that action is very limited. The show up and are gone quick. Just toss a Carolina Rig and be patient, they are still around.



Great baits have been senko type baits, 7 inch worms, redeye shads and steel shads, remember these bass are chasing smaller sized shad, so for best results you want to stick to baits closer to shad patterns and try to match the size. All too often we hear “ bigger baits means bigger bass” sometimes this is true, but you will catch a lot of bigger bass with French fry type baits as well.



July Heat is now here, but there is still action going on. Best results can be produced in 6 hour trips. Fall is just around the corner and dates will start booking up so check your calendar and jump on board.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing

The end of December proved to be yet another good week of bass fishing on Lake Toho.
Southern end of the lake is still producing some good numbers for us. Live bait has been a big key to catching bass on a consitant basis but the artificial bite is was still producing some good catches.
Most of our time had been spent targeting reeds and scattered patches of lily pads with some pretty good success.
Yushi and his son Atsushi had one awesome day out here, not only catching some good numbers, but also some quality bass at a steady pace. Water temperatures were running right around 59 degrees which did have the bass somewhat scattered, but as long as we were within casting range of the reeds and pads with our shiners, the bass played pretty good.
With the artificial baits, Gitem K.O's wacky rigged and twin Liz was the definate way to go. Altho the bite with artificials was more of a light tap and not the wanted aggressive hit, allowing the bass to swim a few extra seconds with your bait was the trick. Keeping track of every cast you made was needed, as these bass would lightly grab the bait and slowly swim away from cover to deeper waters, several times clients have made casts, and did not feel a thing until their bait was within feet of the boat. This is not uncommon, especially when the waters get cold like this.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing. Week ending Dec 25th

Lake Toho Bass Fishing Report

Lake Toho Bass fishing has been doing very good thru the middle of the month of December. Several trips out on Lake Toho have produced some good numbers, and some quality bass.
 We did a little live bait fishing, bass responded well to this, but the main action was with the artificial baits. Steel Shad and spinner baits worked well on schooling bass. Schooling bass size was ok, the real catch came with rigging up a fluke with a half ounce weight, tossing it past the schooling bass and very slowly crawling it below the school to catch the quality bass. Scattered hydrilla beds in mid lake have still been producing good numbers.
 Key has been to find the small isolated patches. These patches have been holding bass as of late for us. Friars cove has also been holding some quality bass. Gitem Shads, 10 inch worms and wacky rigged Gitem K.Os have been the main baits used to target these bass.
We also had the great pleasure of filming a bass fishing show with Bob Redfern’s Outdoor Magazine Television Series out on Lake Toho this month. We had a great time and got some good footage. All bass caught for the show were caught on Steel Shad and some on live bait. Show should be airing but the end of January 2010.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing week of Dec 12th

The bass fishing on Lake Toho has been great for us the past week. Wild shiners, artificial plastics and steel shad have been producing not only some good numbers, but some size as well.
 We have been launching out of the main ramp and making the long run to the south end of the lake.
Some good largemouth action had been coming from Friars Cove.
Working stickups and reeds have been a big key to catching some quality bass. Craws and Gitem KO’s have been the main producers as far as the plastics go. Steel Shad and spinner baits have also been very big, especially the steel shad in the open water areas that we have hit. There has been some steady schooling action on the southern end of Lake Toho, which has kept us going back for.
West side of the lake has also been a good area for us, slowly swimming either flukes or flappin shads thru the scattered grasses have produced some good strikes, another good bet was working a one ounce spinner bait thru the reeds and thinned out grasses. For the most part, the bite has been a pretty aggressive hit.

Lake Toho Bass Fishing

Bass Fishing the first part of December started out great on Lake Toho. Three days of bass fishing with Paul Fisler and HM1 Shane Gilley proved to be eventful and a lot of fun.
 These guys were catching bass at a good pace every morning, with steel shad leading the way. These bass were in tune in a big way with the shad. The early bite was definitely key to every day, as once the schooling action cooled off, we found ourselves doing some moving around to catch bass. The south end of Lake Toho proved to be the best action.

Paul started Day one out, showing me his new spinner bait from Holeshottackle.com, and on the first cast of the day got the hook up. After that we spent the majority of the time catching bass with the shad. We had one main area that we fished every morning with great success, bass played very good and kept the action steady every day. Once this action died off, we moved around working Gene Larew craws catching bass scattered across the southern end of lake toho. Tried some senko type baits but got no action with them, and managed only one follow on a Gambler Flappin Shad. Despite higher winds on Wednesday, we still caught bass scattered on toho, using steel shad, with Shane basically just trolling one behind the boat. For the most part, the bite with soft plastics with a very light one, as Shane’s big bass just picked up the bait and swam towards the boat with it before he realized he had something on the line.

JJ’s Dippin Dye was a big help on the boat as well, with the light bite, I honestly believe this product made a difference, as the first few bass that hit, let go fast that is until we started dipping our baits. Great product, and you only need to dip your plastic once, as this penetrates the plastic and trust me on this, it stays and works!
